The deadline for registered value added tax (VAT) taxpayers to start using new electronic tax invoicing machines was 31 July 2022. But Kenya Revenue Authority added them two months to 30 September, and it has now given new deadline as 30 November 2022. All registered VAT taxpayers must use new tax register to send their tax data to the tax authority on real time. The new type of tax register is replacing the electronic tax register (ETR) whose use started in 2005.
Kenya Revenue Authority said some taxpayers registered to collect Value Added Tax had started using the new tax registers. But some were yet to buy the new tax registers or link them with the authority.
This is the reason KRA extended the deadline to 30 November 2022. The added time will allow the taxpayers to complete the process, the tax authority said.
KRA said the new tax registers would ensure that all taxpayers pay all value added taxes they collect from buyers.
